How are you going to be so close to a tornado and your crocs aren’t even in sport mode?

I know you joke, but they’re probably a good mile away from it, and definitely north and west of the tornado so well out of the way of any immediate danger.

5

u/Pleasant_Ad3475 18d ago

I know I'm a bit late, but can I ask what you mean by 'north and west of the tornado'?

16

u/Temporary_Shirt_6236 18d ago

In that part of the world, tornadoes usually come from a southwesterly direction traveling northeasterly. So if you are north and west of a tornado you're gonna be fine since it is traveling away from you. However there are no absolutes with these twirly buggers.

Tornadoes occur when cool, dry fronts coming down from Canada meet warm, humid air fronts coming up from Mexico.

3

u/HalobenderFWT 18d ago

Tornados almost always travel west to east, and tend to have a strong bias towards moving from the west to the north east. So if you are situated due north west or south west of a tornado - you can almost always assume you are safely out of the path.

This tornado seems to moving from right to the left in the picture, meaning that the couple is north and slightly west of the tornado.

(Note: I stress that not all tornados follow the west/east/northeast track. Majority do, but sticking around an active tornado is always a gamble)

51

u/mexican2554 18d ago

I mean tbh, there ain't much going on in SoDak. So people seeing a tornado was prob the highlight of the year for them.

43

u/CraziestMoonMan 18d ago

I live in a highly populated area and if I saw a tornado it would probably still be the highlight of my year. That would be fucking awesome.

39

u/Turkatron2020 18d ago

This is a very rural rodeo & for some reason all the horses are being kept there & they're trying to stay on the dry side because it rained a lot

17

u/GeneralBS 18d ago

I'm guessing they moved them from the trailers to have them all in one spot and release them if they are in danger at the same time.

It's the one thing that makes me less upset about not having in and out. Culver's is equally good in its own way.

I live in Las Vegas and I vastly prefer Culver's to In-N-Out.

6

u/PM_YOUR_PUPPERS 19d ago

This is true. I live in the midwest so I have Culver's but every time I go out west I do enjoy some in and out.

In and out is good but Culver's is on a whole nother level.

They are both storm chasers. Tornado Paigeyy is her name. Definitely an awesome photo.

1.5k

u/4Ever2Thee 19d ago

I can see why she became a storm chaser with a name like that.

383

u/RonMexico16 19d ago

I bet she can catch up to a storm with legs like those, too. 🏃‍♀️💨

78

u/Sjekkie_Sparrow 19d ago

No she can't. Crocs are not in racing mode.

143

u/WhyAmINotStudying 19d ago

Right? The whole picture is fantastic, but those quads are very familiar with squats and leg press.

Feels nice to objectify (in the non-derogatory definition) a woman in a nonsexual way. If it was the guy's legs, I'd say the same exact thing and I think you would, too.

I'm mostly just happy for the couple and respect his absolutely brilliant idea for a proposal moment.

51

u/No_Alts_ 19d ago

Genuinely the second thing I noticed in the picture. Not trying to objectivise her, but I saw those legs and thought "she could easily kick that tornado away".

4

u/Darkdragoon324 18d ago

Of course she has great legs, she's a storm chaser, how else is she supposed to catch them?

122

u/PlanetMeatball0 19d ago

First part was a normal response. Second part made it weird

70

u/4Ever2Thee 19d ago

Right?! I was thinking the same thing.

It’s nice to agree with a complete stranger online in a complete non-sexual way. I don’t even know your gender and I’m not even aroused by your comment, I was just thinking the same thing as you which is neat. In a completely nonsexual way.

Is that like an actual profession.....sounds cool....

85

u/Nindessa_896 19d ago

It is! It's field meteorology. The information gathered by storm chasers taking video and setting out measurement probes have significantly improved forcasting tools and saved many lives as a result.

It's the reason why we now have 15-20 minutes to take cover during a tornado warning versus the 4-5 we initially had.

29

u/53bvo 19d ago

The information gathered by storm chasers taking video and setting out measurement probes have significantly improved forcasting tools and saved many lives as a result.

And here I was thinking the Twister(s) movie was all made up!

11

u/_joyfully_ 19d ago

You can look for a video of Reed Timmer actually shooting little rockets into a tornado from his tank...car. Fair warning, he yells a lot.

People keep disputing whether or not this is fake, so I want to make a few points: - They're both storm chasers. This tornado happened yesterday (06/28/2025) in South Dakota near the border of Minnesota. Many other storm chasers have documented this very tornado. I watched it live on a couple different live streams. - Why isn't it super windy? They're several dozen yards away from the tornado. Winds from a tornado tend to stick close to the funnel, rather than spread out like in the case of straight line winds. - The lighting? On her legs, that's probably headlights from another chaser's vehicle off camera. There were dozens along this very road watching this tornado. As for the lighting by the vehicle in the shot, they probably put lights on the side so it's easier to see where you're stepping when you get out. - "What's up with the dude's leg??" He's wearing pretty standard work boots. Those boots tend to go a third of the way up the calf depending on the exact kind of boot. So the way he's kneeling is making the back of the boot pull the pant leg up a little.

I really wish people would stop calling everything they don't believe Photoshopped or AI generated without looking into details first.
