The only crimes I see are the cop’s bruised ego and his dangerously low emotional intelligence.

I'd love to see how you react when someone publicly yells at you and calls you a retard... I'm sure you would have a calm and rational response. :p

The first amendment protects our rights to free speech and protest. This person was protesting by airing his grievances to a government official regarding over-policing. This poorly trained officer lacks the emotional maturity needed to remain calm in the face of criticism. A properly trained officer would listen to the protester to determine the nature of his grievances, acknowledge his grievances by calmly providing a summary of his grievances, ask protester if this summary accurately describes his grievances then thank him for bringing these issues to his attention. At that point the lone protester would likely just walk away on his own because grievances were heard and acknowledged.

This is how I would have responded.

So you're saying people should be free to harass and spout abuse at cops, who should always respond in a calm and rational manner? Would you feel the same if the cop was dealing with some guy who just robbed or assaulted you?

No, I am not saying that. Assault and robbery are both crimes. Airing one’s grievances to a government official is not a crime, in fact it’s a constitutionally protected activity. If a police officer cannot abide by his oath to support and defend the Constitution then he is in the wrong line of work. Furthermore if an employee cannot follow company policy then the employer needs to ultimately terminate his employment.

Airing one's grievances does not equal being a rude asshole, sorry.

The Supreme Court ruled that offensive speech and angry words when airing grievances to government officials is constitutionally protected speech.

Just because you have no self restraint doesn’t mean that the rest of us are as smooth brained as yourself.

Aren’t you glad you can write that to me and I don’t have legal justification to pummel you? Thanks, Obama!
