Is there any liability to the owners for littering/polluting?

If the owners choose to demo it before it falls, they have to pay for it. If it falls into the ocean due to “natural” causes, the taxpayers pay to clean it up. Thus, they let them rot.

They are all investment properties, and they are renting them out up until the second they are engulfed by water. I was in OBX last summer when one fell in. There was people renting it out the week before.

No and that’s the problem here. This wasn’t something that happened overnight. The owners of this house knew it was falling into the ocean for years. It’s cheaper just to abandon it and let it happen than pay for demolition and cleanup

You would think the fine for the environmental impact would encourage making the responsible choice.

Put the imputus on insurance, this wouldn't happen.
